{"id":53265,"date":"2023-01-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-01-16T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southafricatribune.com\/?guid=130b316fc3092bebc34229e802ef3565"},"modified":"2023-01-16T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2023-01-16T00:00:00","slug":"president-ramaphosa-welcomes-high-court-decision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatribune.com\/president-ramaphosa-welcomes-high-court-decision\/","title":{"rendered":"President Ramaphosa welcomes high court decision"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Cyril Ramaphosa has welcomed the decision handed down by the South Gauteng High Court Division to interdict the private prosecution brought against him by former President Jacob Zuma.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The former President has instituted a private prosecution against President Ramaphosa and alleges that the president is an \u201caccessory after the fact\u201d in the case against prosecutor Advocate Billy Downer and journalist Karyn Maughan.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The interdict means that the President will not have to appear in court on Thursday in the Downer and Maughan matter.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>However, the court is yet to decide whether former President Zuma\u2019s private prosecution is lawful.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said the interdict is an affirmation of President Ramaphosa\u2019s contentions with the private prosecution.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe court affirmed all of the President\u2019s key contentions, namely on jurisdiction of the court to hear the interdict application, the urgency of the matter against a court appearance date based on a prima facie unlawful nolle prosequi.
